Debut-CD Spanish Impressions

On Spanish Impressions the Munich-born Pianist Carolin Danner unites music from three centuries of Spanish and other European composers that have concerned themselves intensely with the Spanish culture. Among them are the Italian composer Domenico Scarlatti, who spent most of his life at the Spanish court, as well as the French composers Debussy and Ravel, whose admiration of Spanish music has materialized in their musical works. Both of them were personally acquainted with the Spaniards Manuel de Falla, Enrique Granados and Isaac Albéniz, who at the time were developing their own unique Spanish styles of composing. The wonderful overview of the variety of spanish music provided by this recording is completed by works from José Zaraté, one of the most successful contemporary Spanish composers.

"Carolin Danner plays music from Spain or with a Spanish influence from Domenico Scarlatti, Debussy, Ravel, de Falla, Granados to Albéniz and José Zárate with sophistication, a fiery temperament and a feeling for timbre."

CD recommendation, neue musikzeitung 12/15

"Spanish impressions is a collection of Spanish piano music over three centuries, put together with great care."

Deutschlandradio Kultur 07/14 (Philipp Quiring)

"It has been long since the intricate Fantasia Baetica by Manuel de Falla has been heard with such fierce seriousness, and both Enrique Granados' Andaluza as well as Albeniz' Asturias appear very authentic because of the straightforward style of Danner's recital. Her rhythmical precision ultimately also benefits the spanish impressions of Debussy and Ravel."

PianoNews 06/14 (Robert Nemecek)

"With the musical album Spanish Impressions, Carolin Danner not only provides insights into the diversity of spanish music, but she also moves through the different eras in style In doing so, she proves a versatile pianist with a passion for España that is definitely catching."
